Hi to one and all...funny thing happened tonight three hours ago...the phone went and a chappie asked to speak to my hubby when I answered it...hubby took it and I heard him ask who the person was then proceed to say yes to several things then the call ended and he said that his card had been used by somebody to buy airline tickets and some things from Tescos...and I panicked thinking it was that con mentioned on this site a week or two back...hubby was told his card though was going to be replaced and to destroy his current one, which sounded a bit different and he was also given a number to ring, which sounded like the con...so he phoned the bank itself and discovered the call was genuine and it was the fraud office calling him...from India!!! And, he would be receiving a new card because his card details had been stolen...
It must have been when the details of thousands of customers got hijacked and my hubby's card was one that actually got used!! At least the bank picked it up....we relaxed after being told that the call was genuine...and watched 'Hot Fuzz'...thought it was very good, bit slow to begin with, but improved tremendously after first three quarters of an hour...very British...![]()
So, my friends, have a good rest of the evening, have a restful night, sweet dreams and big hugs to one and all for now...

Personally, I think it's disgraceful of the bank to get an Indian call centre to deal with a case of fraud on this level in the UK...we could easily have said no thanks as soon as he asked to speak to one of us when we heard the accent, presuming it to be a cold caller...I want to know how my hubby's Mastercard was hacked, because he never uses it much at all except on line so rather worrying, and why did the bank become suspicious? I keep getting letters from the banks via email telling me there's been activity on one of my cards with such and such a bank, which could be illegal etc...and I haven't had a card with them for so many years both of ours would have been extinct several years ago...weird that somebody would buy something in Tescos with it...hmmm...difficult world we live in now...full of unseen dangers...

indeed. And by keeping the veil of secrecy, the banks make it much more difficult for us to try and know what's happening with our cards, and how to protect them better.

I don't think we can protect them better...you have to put them into the system to pay for anything you buy nowadays, so protecting them isn't up to us, it's up to the businesses that oblige us to use them...and clearly, they're not that successful...I refuse to have any card other than a Maestro/Switch...stay well clear of Mastercards etc..etc...don't like credit cards at all, but hubby needed one because he buys jazz CD's from around the world on line and you can't use Switch in most of them...he's only had this one for around seven months, which is pretty scary to think it's already been hijacked...

Glad that it was caught by the bank jen, always makes me wonder if it is fraud inside the company, call centre for instance, and they would never admit that.

Have no idea, Trev...most peculiar...makes you realise they know so much about your transactions that they can pick up ones not done by you...but how?

I would have been very suspicious too Jen. I can't imagine how they took the details of hubby's credit card. Glad it is canceled and replaced. Nighty night. Sleep well. Hugs and kisses
