Hi to everybody...this is borrowed from Kevin...quite a poser this one...
He writes that there's a theory that our whole lives are decided by six decisions...
I've had a think and these are my six....I think...LOL...I kept having to change my answers because I realised it was my decisions not what somebody else had done to me that changed the course of my life...so off we go

1. My decision to leave home at 18 and move back to London.
2. My decision to accept my husband's offer to take me to the Isle of Wight concert in 1969 as a first date.
3. My decision to leave the Ministry of Defence.
4. My decision to marry my husband and ignore the disapproval of my family and all my friends.
5. My decision to agree to move seven times in our lives together.
6. My decision to go into hospital in June of 1983.

That was really difficult...I'm not sure whether these are right or not...it seems I've made a huge number of decisions in my life, but these are pivotal I think...

  Thanks, Kev...it was a strange exercise, but once you put your mind to it, it's actually surprising how you can reduce your life changing decisions down to a mere few...big hugs...

Gosh, I would have to think long and hard about my decisions. I've made so many that have affected my life I dont think I could identify just six!

  That's what I thought, but when you actually pin point the most influential on your life, I think you may find there aren't that many...I had loads of decisions to make on what I call peripheral things but that's not what is asked here...it's the major, major ones that changed everything in our lives and made them what they are today...good luck...HLOL...big hugs...

your whole life is choices..and the slightest deviation could have sent you tumbling in another direction..i can look back at points where had i left a phone ringing my life would have gone on another path...it must haver been quite hard to pick just the six. well done!

  yes, like I said to Carol...you make hundreds of peripheral decisions which make your life deviate somewhat but not in a major way...but an awful lot are made for you or suggested by somebody else and are not ones you made personally...or something happens that force you in another direction...these are ones I made deliberately of my own free will and all made huge differences in my life...big hugs...

That's an interesting exercise and you've made some interesting decisions. I'm going to have a go, although I'm not sure I'll post the results.

I like no. 4 - my family didn't approve of my husband either.

  It wasn't just my family - it was all my friends and I had a lot from all walks of life and all of them were vehemently opposed to me marrying him...it was only his who attended our wedding and I was given away by his best friend's girl friend who I'd only met a couple of times...LOL - we had six people at our wedding including us and the photographer...hmmm...shows that people really don't see below the surface of people but just go by what they think they see...glad I proved them all wrong, but they never came back to me...none of them...it's why I have always felt isolated...I'd known these people for seven years and they left me just like that because I'd done something they couldn't accept...same with the people I knew in the Church...after I left that, every friends I'd ever made over the twenty years I'd lived in the area, just vanished into the woodwork except a couple but that was only because they hoped to get me back. Now they know I'm never coming back, they too have gone...nowt so strange as folk is a very true saying...big hugs to you....

    Good grief, they really must have had a great aversion to him to behave like that. You don't say what it was and I've assumed it was a class thing, only because that's what it was with us, but my parents came round and my father, even though he disapproved more, walked down the aisle with me and gave me away. Or maybe it was a religious thing with you? I'm really sorry that your family and friends behaved as they did, but you very obviously made the right decision. I don't understand which people you'd known for seven years - surely not your family? It must be very difficult to be set adrift from family and friends. No wonder you felt isolated. People can be so cruel.

      Yes, class thing...and he was a hippy, and that didn't go down well with my straight friends...LOL...my parents were definitely anti him because of class...we were never invited for one single Christmas in the entirety of our marriage when the rest of the family got together...well, apart from my other bro, but he'd moved to the States so we lost contact for a long time apart from the very occasional visit, about eighteen years in fact...I never knew what people expected of me...something I clearly couldn't give them, because I know that they are still friends with each other...well they were the last time I saw some of them in 1983 when three of my ex work mates and flat mates suddenly decided to drop in...two months later we lost our son and I never saw them again...they knew about it as well...not even a card to say they were sorry to hear about it...like I said nowt as strange as folk...LOL...and sorry that you had trouble with your parents too...but glad yours came round...now, I don't care anymore...my parents are dead, the people I knew in my past are just that...people I knew in my past...and the past is long gone now..now, I'm actually happier than I've been for years, so life is being kind to us for a while anyway... big hugs...

        The more I think about it, the less I can understand your parents, or any parents who distance themselves from their children just because they don't like their choice of partner. As for other people, well it's difficult to know what they want sometimes, and it really is difficult when people you know ingnore the fact that you've lost a child. I'm so glad that you're feeling a lot happier these days. Those people from the past who didn't care enough just don't matter. Their loss. Big hugs.

        You're quite right not to hang onto a past that is bad. The only past worth hanging onto is the one full of good memories, but even then one can't live in it and must fix oneself in the present. As you say, life is too short. Best grab it with both hands whilst we can. XX
