Hi to everybody...didn't have a good night...couldn't get off to sleep after turning the light out at 1 and gave up at 2 and made myself a cup of tea with some wheatmeal bics as my stomach was rumbling and a paracetomol to get me off to sleep...it worked...LOL...well, until 5.30 when I turned over thinking that I'd had a nice long sleep...hmmmed...and went back to sleep again until 6.40 then turned on the radio at 9 to listen to In Our Time on the Empiricist philosopher/scientists of the Vienna School...was interesting but something funny happened at the end...a while back now I saw a series on how we, humans, evolved and the animals and fish that finally became us...the presenter caught a very primitive fish whose defence mechanism was to produce masses of mucous so that it was almost impossible to grasp...one fish could nearly fill a bucket with it and that was allegedly the fish that started off the journey of evolution for us...ever since I heard that, I thought that this is what must happen when our bodies detect an external threat...it produces an excessive amount of mucous, which I believe is triggered by this primal gene still existing in our DNA code...it was fine under water, but, for us, it's not good...we can literally drown in our own mucous if the body doesn't stop producing it...one way, when medication is not available quickly, is to hold your breath for as long as possible and the body gets the message to stop making it...I was thinking about this while listening to Melvyn Bragg's prog because I was coughing quite badly and nearly choking...and thinking about this perishing fish we've got in our gene bank, held my breath and sorted it out...the funny thing was, when the prog finished, Bragg told us what next week's subject is...the earliest life forms from which we evolved...LOL...hmmm...he's done this before, but this was very much spot on...
Have had a walk today round to Lidl's so a good couple of miles and it's another scorcher...
Don't think the blog meet is going to materialize...never mind...will happen again one day...
We also went into the Range to buy a card and we were stopped at the door and told we couldn't take our Lidl's carrier bag into the shop!! New rules...no large carrier bags allowed anymore after some people were caught with full bags leaving the shop without paying!! Bugger these thieves who spoil things for everybody else...I hate this security consciousness that's coming in everywhere now...makes you feel like a criminal before you've even got in the shops...Anyway, the security chap told us to take our bag to the customer services and they would look after it...we said, no, we're not doing that, you can look after it for us, so dropped it behind him and walked into the shop to get the card then paid for it and came back and collected our bag...HLOL...hubby was so annoyed, he nearly refused to go in the shop any more...
That's it for now...am cooling off after our walk...hope you are all having a good day, are managing to keep cool somehow and send great big hugs to one and all...

No, can't eat chocolate if I'm trying to lose weight...
And yes, it's a shame about the meet but it would be boiling hot travelling on buses to get to it...LOL...and run out of energy for today as we've already had a longish walk... GBHs...XXX

Shops typically allow 6% for theft. In this time of consumer carefulness, they seem to be trying to diminish that 6%. Makes sense really.
It's finally cooled down here :-)

Just so annoying that there are people who spoil things for everybody...and it's 79 degrees here by the sea so not sure whether that's cooling down...
Always a bit hotter off shore, better though that in the nineties as predicted...

LOL I love your style! Quite right too - if they don't want you to take shopping bags inside they should have assistants to take them off you at the door, and bring them back to you when you leave

Lovely and warm here too - I'm supposed to be doing some baking and ironing, but haven't managed to persuade myself to get started yet. In a minute.... maybe....LOL

Well, we didn't give him much chance to argue with us...LOL...'you want our bag, you can have it'...LOL...and will have to bake again at the weekend...supposed to be a lot cooler then...
certainly wouldn't want to do it today or ironing...what's ironing by the way? Haven't done any for donkey's years...HLOL...GBHs...XXX-

I've been good!! I went downstairs and made a pine-nut and sunflower seed loaf (breadmaker....no kneading involved) and an egg free sultana cake ready to take with us next time we go to mum-in-law's, and while they were doing I got some ironing done - (wish hubby didn't have to wear pure cotton shirts, but he does, unfortunately, so that's a chore I can't wriggle out of). Not too bad though, as I was watching Wimbledon at the same time. Now I've got nothing needs doing till it's time to start cooking dinner

You have been good! Sounds a lovely loaf and sultana cake as well...my diet would have gone right out of the window...HLOL...I had a really huge dinner tonight...a fried egg on a marmite sandwich...
Suddenly fancied marmite...haven't had any for yonks...LOL...Don't feel hungry in this weather and had a very filling ham sandwich for lunch so don't want anything too filling for dinner...my loaves make very large slices so two and a filling really make a good meal in themselves...have a good dinner...

It's very, very nice...
And your dinner sounds very nice too...
I like that type of meal on a hot day...it's really hot in the house still...don't think it's going to cool off tonight...I bought one of those make your room smell nice plug ins that you have to switch on to get it to work...I never use it now, but sat in the living room going 'what's that perfume?' The plug in isn't even plugged in and it's so hot today that the oil has started to work...LOL...now that is hot...Hope you have a good night...

I can't use air-fresheners except just as I'm on the way out, they make me very breathless if I'm at home while they're switched on
It's quite a nice temperature in our computer/games/music room, as we've got a ceiling fan which keeps the air moving nicely. Hope you have a good night too
Catch you tomorrow. Sleep tight Jen....GBH's XXX-

Neither can I that's why I stopped using it...LOL...made me all blocked up...have to watch these highly perfumed things...I'm upstairs and I keep getting whiffs of it up here...it's so strong! Don't like my house smelling like a brothel...HLOL...Off to bed now to read and roast...sleep well, ravingmad, and sweet dreams...GBHs...XXX

I like that Radio programme you listened to. I do hope it will come over here. I will look for it. Track our ancestors all the way back to a mucus-laden fish. Wonders will never cease!
We are supposed to carry our bags everywhere now when we shop. It is called conservation and to save the paper and plastic from being used to wrap our purchases.
Doomed if you do - doomed if you don't.
Hope the weather is not TOO hot for you. It can become tedious after awhile. Best wishes to you both, Jen and Ray: JW-

I never complain about hot weather, but do have to watch I don't get too tired walking in it...a couple of miles is about my limit on days like this...
and yes, they tell you to bring your own bags and when you do, they won't let you in the store...LOL...the world is a mass of contradictions isn't it...
Hope you have a lovely rest of the day, Charlotte...
