Hi to everybody...just sat and watched the last set and the only match I've watched at Wimbledon to see Murray lose to Roddick and out of the final...What is it about Wimbledon and our British players? It's jinxed...we can't win it for love nor money...
Roddick played brilliantly from what I could see and Murray didn't play badly...but I do believe we put so much pressure on our players that they fold under it...might be better if they played in private...LOL...
Hmmm...depressing really...Murray has had a very good year, but when it comes to Wimbledon...oh, well...
Hope you have a good rest of the evening and send great big hugs to one and all...

It can't be that, Tom, otherwise our players wouldn't win other tournaments around the world with all the same players participating which both Henman and Murray did...it's just Wimbledon that our men seem to collapse at just when the goal is in sight...GBHs...XXX

Our players don't win many other tournaments, apart from the piddly little ones that aren't important. Wimbledon attracts all the best players and we, quite expectedly, get demolished.

Doha:
CHAMPION - bt Andy Roddick (6-4 6-2)
Abu Dhabi:
CHAMPION - bt Rafael Nadal (6-4 5-7 6-3)
Rotterdam:
CHAMPION - bt Rafael Nadal (6-3 4-6 6-0)
Miami MS:
CHAMPION - bt Novak Djokovic (6-2 7-5)
Queens:
CHAMPION - bt James Blake (7-5 6-4)
That's not a bad record for 2009 and this isn't including the tournaments where he reached the quarter finals...this is the trouble with Britain, we put our players down generally and when Wimbledon arrives we decide we're all going to root for them and they can't take the pressure...or something else happens to them...he beat Roddick in Doha...I guess if you follow tennis tournaments none of these are piddly little ones as you put it and all the top players compete in them...we've got a rotten habit of not supporting our sportsmen except at damned home, which is ridiculously parochial...really annoys me and I don't even like sports! LOL...GBHs...XXX-

All minor tournaments. The Grand Slam ones are the important ones.

There is such a huge pick in America. This is a vast continent. As opposed to tiny England, there is no comparison. Out of millions are picked the very best, only because America is limitless.
It's hardly fair really. Drat it! I wanted Murray to win.-

yes, and limitless funds once...LOL...I guess if a country invests in its sports people, it pays off in the end but that's the trouble with competitions, I'm fed up with being on the losing side all the time...LOL...we can't win a darn thing now and yet millions of pounds are poured into football especially and we still can't win the important matches...most of our teams are made up of players from all around the world which is fine if you're playing as a global village, but we're not, we're country pitched against country and so clearly not investing in our own young players whatever the football managers say...given the choice between an allegedly brilliant player from another team abroad, they'd buy him rather than coach our players up to that high standard...it's why I never watch Wimbledon anymore...enjoyed Agassi and McEnroe because they showed emotion on the court, while most of the players now are so controlled, they are boring...
That's my rant out of the way...HLOL...Have a lovely rest of the day, Charlotte...GBHs...XXX

Except that professional tennis players are really only playing for themselves , as opposed to for their country !

Yup, Martin, there's a lot in that too...money, money, money...ruins everything and most especially the whole concept of sport...maybe we could try running out of money completely and come back to playing because we love too...

I think you are right Jen. It's the hype. I don't like Murray but he has beaten Nadal and Nadal is the best Grand Slam player in my opinion.
I think we, the media and the very name Wimbledon whips up this ridiculous fantasy speculation. And hype upon hype is bestowed on whomever it may be. Be it "Tiger" Tim (laughable as Tim never had an ounce of Tiger like quality) or Murray or whoever. If Cliff Richard got through to the semis it would be exactly the same. But the media are the main culprits. It's too intense....-

As I said, I sat and watched the last set...the only one and by accident more than design...and I was angry with the expectations of the crowd...they'd put Murray on such a gigantic pedestal the poor guy couldn't but fail to fall off...did it to Henman...and will continue to do it with every successive British guy or girl that can hit a ball over a net with some degree of success...we should go out and buy tennis players from all round the world to represent us as we do for football...
We might just win Wimbledon that way, because we sure bloody aren't going to do it ever at the rate we're going...

Methinks you have a point there! Nationally, we seem to have such an obsession with being 'tops'...having a 'hero'; so much pressure on the participants in whatever sport! Have a look at which disciplines did well at the Olympics!

It seems to be Global jenray. Our traditional sportspeople aren't doing as well as they usually do. Perhaps it is something to do with all the big money being flashed in front of the sports people these days...

Definitely...money has ruined sport...being able to do everything so much better with finely honed bodies in every sense of the word than our sports men and women had when they were amateur but were still excellent in their own field of expertise because they loved it for what it was...sport...now we've got big businesses and 'sport' has vanished into thin air with professional sports people earning mind boggling amounts and generally being 'manufactured and sold' as commodities...bad for them and bad for sport...I don't think a lot of people in the world like what is happening but they support their teams or players and so nothing changes...hmmm...GBHs...XXX

Murray did really well, the other chap was just that bit better. Such is life.

Murray's beaten him twice in other championships...think he's been trained to find all of Murray's weak points...he did today clearly...GBHs...XXX

I think the plain truth is that we just aren't very good at tennis. That's partly because of a lack of investment in bringing on younger players, and there are no doubt many more factors.
