Hi to everybody...had a very good night apart from the fact at 6.50 the doorbell went...well I swear it did because I woke up with a start and then thought I must have imagined it and went back to sleep...but I think the postie got the wrong door because nothing was on the doorstep when we got up at 9.15...they were right about the forecast today...poured with rain this morning and then cleared up and now it's clouding over again and there's a heck of a wind...so it's bread making day...have prepared the dough with my new recipe and it's proving now...will let you know later how it turns out...LOL...Hubby kneaded it for me and it looks fine...
Funny how different people knead differently...he kept forgetting to turn it as he kneaded but it's his first time since he was a young boy doing it for his Mum...
We had a coffee and me my ciggie and he stood in the doorway and said...'I don't know how to say this in any other way, but call me when you need me'...HLOL...
Don't think we'll be taking a walk today unless it really clears up...went out into the garden just now and nearly got blown over...hmmm...heard something today about coffee...apparently the scientists now believe it's a possible cure for dementia...they tried giving mice water laced with caffeine and some with no caffeine and the mice that had been showing signs of getting older and less alert improved dramatically with the caffeine in the water...two strong cups of coffee a day or fifteen cups of tea or twenty drinks of Coke Cola should be sufficient to put off dementia...with the last two I wouldn't need to bother with dementia as the whole of my day would be spent in the damned loo so I wouldn't need to be alert or my memory improved!! HLOL...Hubby reckoned he drinks ten cups of tea a day when he's working nights but we drink only three or four when he's home...but do have two cups of strongish coffee...so, my lovely friends, who have reached the age when dementia might be a threat start drinking strong coffee and stop those chunks of amyloid protein lumping together in our brains and turning them into mush...
That's it for now...hope you're having a good day, are seeing some sunshine and send great big hugs to one and all...

Might go onto proper coffee later but at the mo, we're drinking Kenco's sustainable coffee which I think is one of their best...Have to watch overdosing yourself with coffee though as it can give you palpitations...always a down side isn't there...LOL...GBHs...XXX

Yes, they do say a couple of cups is sufficient so that shouldn't speed up the old body too much...remember taking caffeine tabs once I bought from the chemist because I felt so tired...raced round after that like a greyhound with its tail on fire...HLOL...GBHs...XXX

They have special little 'Espresso' stalls in some places in Italy....saw a few in Milan! People pop in for a 'single' or 'double'....slurp down...followed by 'water'... Hardly five minutes 'pop-in'...

The percentage of Italian people over 65 years old with dementia is 7-9 percent [between 800,000 and one million people]. That incidence of dementia is not increasing but in Italy we have more and more old people so there is an increasing prevalence of dementia. Certainly the number of people affected will rise as the number of Italians over 80 years old rises.
It affects around 700,000 people in the UK and is expected to increase more than threefold in the next 50 years.
Hmmm...wonder why their intake of caffeine doesn't seem to be working...GBHs...XXX-

There must be other variables.....more surveys needed then! Not sure where the survey was done...that gave rise to the 'News' item'xx

well all these alleged cures are done on mice first so maybe mice brains don't get dementia after caffeine intake but human brains are another matter and we probably have far more harmful substances in our bodies than do little tiny mice...
And surveys are just that...percentages of the population derived from a cross section of the people aren't they? It's like the skin cream ads...'most women said they noticed a change'...and on the bottom 'tested on 200 women'...??? LOL...never trust statistics and certainly not surveys...

A bit of both. I have IBS and also have anxiety/panic attacks and caffeine makes both worse. I do have the very odd cup when I go anywhere that dont have decaff, but usually carry rooibos or decaff around in my bag lol xxxx
-
- http://www.jenniferhunter.co.uk
- 06.07.2009 @ 13:14:35
Decaff is disastrous for me...makes me pee constantly after it and gives me a bad head...whatever the process to remove the caffeine is it doesn't like my body...
I always drank coffee when I had both of IBS and panic attacks and don't think it made them worse even though they say to stop doing so many different things with it...think it's something to do with what's going on in our heads more than our guts...our guts are just reacting to the stress in us...if you can get rid of that I bet your IBS will also disappear like mine did...just went as I got my anxiety and stress under control again...both our sons nearly died of very serious asthma attacks at least three times before the youngest finally did so I did have a huge amount of stress...took another four or more years before I got the panic attacks that started after Matthew died under control and my gut sorted itself soon afterwards...our poor old guts are a barometer of our stress levels I think...hope you manage to relax your poor body...could try one cup of coffee a day and see how it goes...

So sorry that you lost your son Jen, no wonder you got your attacks. Mine started when my mum died of breast cancer. She was only 51 and I was alone with her in the middle of nowhere when she passed. My attacks are so much better now, at least I can cope with them lol.
I will try the one cup a day when I'm up and about more. I could try that half cup by Nescafe. Hugs xxxxx-

Ah, so sorry to hear that, AmethystLady...losing somebody very close to you is very hard to bear, a mother in your case, a son in mine...it can devastate you emotionally and make you lose yourself completely for a while...Panic attacks always came when I was outside and something happened to trigger them off...I wanted the ground to open and swallow me because I wanted to be home and feeling safe and secure there...they did go eventually and I'm glad to hear yours are as well...so young for your poor Mum to die...hmmm...life is very hard sometimes...our Matthew was only eight...take care of yourself, sweet thing, and plenty of TLC is what you need...

Best to keep your marbles about you than lose them altogether...as they're expecting millions of elderly people to get it, it's about time they came up with a solution otherwise the health system will collapse completely...think the coffee sales will rocket...HLOL...GBHs...XXX

I think a stroke/dementia are the worst two 'bombs' that elderly can come down with.
I can't remember the right word from one moment to another. That's why I keep the Thesaurus nearby. I try to find the nearest word to what I wanted to say, and then: Eureka! there is the word that had been on the tip of my tongue a few moments before.
I think dementia is on it's way in this old belfry! JW-

Don't worry, Charlotte, this happens to all of us at our age...HLOL..both of us are always doing that...I keep doing crosswords and know I know the word I'm searching for but it just won't come back...
That's why I invested in a new Thesaurus when mine literally fell to pieces with use...
Have a lovely rest of the day...GBHs...XXX
